One of my favorite things about where we live is how I get to either walk or ride bikes with the girls to school in the morning. Today it was 74* and the park was screaming to be ridden by. So we took the long way, and it was absolutely worth it. Making memories with these knuckleheads is my favorite thing to do… even if it’s just turning our morning commute into an adventure.

Last night I stood on the second floor mezzanine in the atrium of the @msartsorg and spoke about a collection of paintings I’ve been working on for the past year.
•
It was in the middle of that brief talk that I realized I was surrounded by Mississippians. All around me were portraits of famous Mississippians. People I’ve looked up to my whole life. The faces of Jim Henson, Leontyne Price, B.B. King, and a host of others looking down. My beautiful wife and our three daughters, forever my biggest cheering section. My family and their ever present unwavering support for both me and the work I do. The faces of friends from near and far who came to celebrate with me, and the calls and texts from others filled with congratulations. The amazing patrons of the arts from Meridian who came to see the pieces. The staff of the MAX who gave me the amazing opportunity to show my work in such an amazing venue.

Last night I shared my work with a room full of Mississippians, and I was proud to be one too.
•
My exhibit “Mississippi: Lost and Found” will be hanging at the Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience now until November 5th.
